“C” the benefits for yourself!

We’ve all been taught how important vitamin C is for our bodies to stay healthy but to also maintain our beauty through skincare.

Vitamin C is indeed an essential nutrient as it cannot be produced internally by humans and other primates, thus it has to be obtained from diet. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, which means our body can’t store it, therefore our daily food must provide the needed amounts.

How much Vitamin C do you need daily?

The recommended dose of Vitamin C per day per person depends on the age of a person and their gender. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of Vitamin C  (according to the National Academy of Sciences) is:

For children

  • Children 1 – 3 years: 15 mg
  • Children 4 – 8 years: 25 mg
  • Children 9 – 13 years: 45 mg
  • Adolescent girls 14 – 18 years: 65 mg
  • Adolescent boys 14 – 18 years: 75 mg

For adult

  • Men over 18 years: 90 mg
  • Women over 18 years: 75 mg
  • Pregnant women: 85 mg
  • Breastfeeding women: 120 mg

If you smoke, you may need an additional 35 mg per day.

Vitamin C is always associated with oranges. Most of us probably picture oranges when thinking of vitamin C, I know I do too! Oranges have been advertised as being a great source of vitamin C by society for a long time. However, that does not necessarily mean that it is the best source of this important vitamin. Would you be surprised if I told you that the Indian gooseberry offers,  gram for gram, 20 times more vitamin C than oranges? Sounds too good to be true but it is indeed a fact made by researchers.

Naturally vitamin C  is a multi-tasker. As an antioxidant it protects our internal tissues from oxidative damage. It supports many immune cells’ functions, facilitates the absorption of iron. It is also responsible in the production of our collagen. Collagen is a protein which is the most abundant in our body. It accounts for about 30% of its total protein. It is the primary building block of our body’s skin, muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments and other connective tissues.

Do you know that all vitamin C are not similar?  Alll ascorbic acids (commonly mistakenly known as vitamin C) are synthesized (fabricated) in labs and real vitamin C can be found naturally in food (fruits and vegetables).

What is the difference between synthetic vitamin C and natural one?

Here’s the difference between natural and synthetic vitamin C:

  • Natural vitamin C: It is present in wholefood only as L-ascorbic acid (i.e. molecule spins counter-clockwise).
  • Synthetic vitamin C: Appears as D-ascorbic acid. It is artificially made. This is the form that is commonly found in multivitamins, or as an additive to processed food and supplements.

They two forms appear as mirror images just like our right and left hands. Generally, our body does not retain the synthetic form and excrete quickly as it is perceived as toxins.

More is not always better

While being present in many fruits and vegetables, vitamin C is rarely found in high concentration in foods naturally. Manufacturers of multivitamins recommend people to consume large doses of up to 2,000 mg of vitamin C, although its recommended daily dose is only around 85 mg per day!

The problem with ascorbic acid

Many studies have indicated that synthetic vitamin C does more harm than good to our bodies and immune system. Recent studies clearly demonstrate how, in fact, high doses of synthetic Vitamin C can have adverse health effects on the body, such as promoting kidney stones, and cardiovascular diseases. A study on vitamin C (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Jan 2008) showed that adults who were taking doses of 1,000 mg of the synthetic Vitamin C had an impaired energy system which significantly diminished physical endurance capacity in athletes by weakening the mitochondria of the cell. The most important role of mitochondria is to produce energy in the cells.

Natural Wins Over Man-Made

Consuming food rich in vitamin C daily is crucial to have a vibrant health, a beautiful skin, but also a strong immune system. Moringa Super C is a potent and natural way to consume high levels of vitamin C in your daily diet along the many antioxidants, vitamins and important minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and iron that it provides. It is a delicious blend of organic Moringa Oleifera, organic Indian gooseberry and organic pineapple. These ingredients are freeze-dried to maintain the potency of their natural micro-nutrients, such as their vitamins, flavonoids, and minerals.  Just a teaspoon of Moringa Super C will provide you with enough vitamin C along with other essential nutrients.

The Moringa Super C can be enjoyed with water only or added to your morning smoothies, desserts, as well as a handful of recipes.

Prioritizing your health does not have to feel like a chore and can be fun and delicious!  “C” the benefits for yourself!
